This scholarship was established by The Findlay Publishing Company with Findlay Rotary Club and community support to honor Richard (Dick) Daugherty for his lifelong contributions to the community. Dick was only too happy to accept this recognition and played a major role in the determination of the scholarship criteria to most fully reflect his love of the arts and community.

Dick graduated from Findlay High School where he was FHS Drum Major and participated in choir at both school and church. He served as president and teacher of The First Presbyterian Church’s Character Builders Sunday School class which was founded by O. D. Donnell. He worked at WFIN and hosted the first commercial remote radio broadcast and hosted the first live TV broadcast in Findlay on cable channel CTV Three. He has been proclaimed Mister Findlay Rotary and has written and illustrated a book titled The History of the Findlay Rotary Club which is registered in the Library of Congress. Dick received the Findlay Rotary Club’s first Lifetime Achievement Award which was later renamed the Richard E. Daugherty Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2001 the mayor of Findlay proclaimed “Dick Daugherty Day in Findlay” and in 2004 the concert held in the Allen Dudley Band Shell was proclaimed “Dick Daugherty Night” and the seating area was named “Dick Daugherty Plaza”.
