Community Foundation Awards More Than $450,000 in Grants

The Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation Board of Trustees approved grants totaling $452,186 at the September board meeting. This total includes four competitive grants totaling $363,000, three president’s discretionary grants totaling $4,650 and 40 donor advised grants totaling $84,536.

COMPETITIVE GRANTS Competitive grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations that seek to meet community needs and match the goals, objectives and priorities of The Community Foundation. Grantseekers must submit a written grant proposal for consideration. Applications are reviewed four times per year.

Funding for competitive grants comes from Funds for the Common Good and Field of Interest funds established by donors at The Community Foundation. Funds for the Common Good allow the Foundation’s Board of Trustees to direct the funds where they are most needed. Field of Interest funds are granted in the donor’s chosen area of interest, such as health, education or the arts.

The following competitive grants totaling $363,000 was approved by the Board of Trustees, made possible by the Common Good and Field of Interest Funds of The Community Foundation:

  • Challenged Champions Equestrian Center, Inc. was awarded a two-year, $15,000 grant to support a hippotherapy program.
  • The Community Foundation was awarded a one-year grant up to $98,000 to continue nonprofit capacity building to help organizations effectively achieve their missions. This includes group workshops and 1:1 coaching sessions with local, regional and national experts.
  • Hancock Historical Museum was awarded a one-year, $50,000 grant to assist with the adaptive reuse of the Davis Homestead into the Davis Learning Institute and an annex for the Center for Digital Storytelling and Participatory Media.
  • Raise the Bar – Hancock County was awarded a two-year, $200,000 matching grant to support the expansion of the Leader in Me program in the Findlay City and Hancock County Schools.

PRESIDENT’S DISCRETIONARY GRANTS Discretionary grants fund urgent or special requests that are outside of the Community Foundation’s various grant cycles. The President of the Community Foundation is allocated an amount each year. These grants do not individually exceed $5,000. The following three discretionary grants totaling $4,650 were approved by the Community Foundation’s Board of Trustees.

  • Findlay City Schools was awarded $1,850 to support the restoration of the Chamberlin Hill Land Lab.
  • Findlay City Schools was awarded $250 for yoga mats and block supports to create a yoga program at Glenwood Middle School.
  • McComb First Presbyterian Church was awarded a grant for $2,550 to support an English as a Second Language program for the Latino community.
