Arlington Grant Surprise

In preparation for its 25th anniversary, The Community Foundation board of trustees set aside $25,000 for rural communities in 2017. Through a competitive application process, three communities received grants. Fostoria received the first grant of $2,245 and Rawson received the second totaling $1,325.

The third and final grant went to the Village of Arlington. Each year, the village hosts a festival to raise money for community improvements. One of the improvement projects identified in the village was a walking and biking path for the village park.

“In a small town the park is a hub of activity during the spring, summer and fall. From soccer, baseball and softball games to people just coming out to enjoy a nice day. Currently people walk along the side of the road. When completed, this won’t be the case. The path will allow people to walk or jog in a safe manner and enjoy our beautiful park. It will be a wonderful addition to our park for residents and those who come to town to visit,” Tom Blunk, Arlington Festival Committee President.

The village shot for the stars, applying for all $25,000 but hoping to receive a few thousand dollars toward their project. Much to their surprise, they were awarded almost the full amount of $21,430. Tom said he hopes these dollars will encourage others to support the project.
