The Richard and Lynn McCord Nursing Advancement Scholarship reflects a commitment to sustaining the local healthcare workforce by supporting aspiring nurses from Hancock County, Ohio, who are pursuing a nursing degree. The purpose of this scholarship is to assist students demonstrating both academic commitment and financial need as they advance in their nursing education and prepare to serve their communities through compassionate, skilled healthcare. Through this annual award, we aim to alleviate financial barriers, strengthen nursing education, and contribute to the health and vitality of Hancock County and surrounding communities.
Standards for Determining Eligibility - Two-Year
- The applicant must be a graduate of a Hancock County High School ( excluding homeschooled students), entering their second year of a two-year nursing degree.
- The applicant must be a citizen of the United States of America.
- The applicant must have a minimum GPA of 2.5, and preference will be given to applicants with a GPA of2.5-3.S. This scholarship is not looking for a student with the highest GPA.
- The applicant must be majoring in Nursing.
- The applicant must be pursuing a two-year degree at a college/university in Northwest Ohio ( excluding on line programs).
- Financial need will be considered but is not the primary consideration. If two candidates have equal merit, the one with greater financial need should be selected.
- Any student who receives a full scholarship that includes all the fees normally payable by policy of The Community Foundation will not qualify for this Scholarship.

- The applicant must be a graduate of a Hancock County High School (excluding homeschooled students), entering their third or fourth year of a four-year nursing degree.
- The applicant must be a citizen of the United States of America.
- The applicant must have a minimum GPA of 2.5, and preference will be given to applicants with a GPA of 2.5-3.5. This scholarship is not looking for a student with the highest GPA.
- The applicant must be majoring in Nursing.
- The applicant must be pursuing a four-year degree at a college/university in Northwest Ohio (excluding online programs).
- Financial need will be considered but is not the primary consideration. If two candidates have equal merit, the one with greater financial need should be selected.
- Any student who receives a full scholarship that includes all the fees normally payable by policy of The Community Foundation will not qualify for this Scholarship.
- Applicants and former scholarship recipients can reapply once for this scholarship. This would include someone who received the Two-Year Nursing Degree scholarship.
