Leo and Virginia Woodward Scholarship

Members of the Leo and Virginia Woodward family established this scholarship in memory of their parents. Leo was a farmer in the Van Buren area and served on the Van Buren School Board. Virginia was a registered nurse and worked at Lima Memorial Hospital and the McComb Hospital, which closed during the 1960’s. The couple had four children and was active as volunteers in the school system while their children attended. All four of the children graduated from Van Buren High School. Virginia graduated from Van Wert High School and Leo was a graduate of Liberty Benton High School.

Standard of Determining Eligibility of Students

  • The applicant must be a male or female graduating from Van Buren High School.
  • The applicant must be planning to major in agriculture, agribusiness, or nursing.
  • The applicant must be accepted as a full-time student for their first year of college at an accredited four-year educational institution or technical college.
  • The applicant must have demonstrated hard work, good citizenship, dependability, good character and a desire to complete his/her education.
  • The applicant must be able to demonstrate good school attendance.
  • Each applicant must have maintained a grade point average of 2.5 or better during high school.
  • The applicant does not need to consider financial need.
  • Applicants receiving full scholarship support from other organizations or institutions will not be considered for this scholarship.
