George and Shirlee Whitson Scholarship

This scholarship, established in 2012 by the children of George and Shirlee Whitson, is for a Hancock County High School graduate planning to pursue an undergraduate degree from the University of Findlay. It will be awarded to a young person who has shown character by volunteering not only in their community, but also through church service and time.

George and Shirlee have been longtime supporters of the high school and the university. George is a Trustee Emeritus at both the University of Findlay and Winebrenner Theological Seminary after serving a combined 30 years on the Board of Trustees of both institutions.

Standards for Determining Eligibility

  • The applicant must be a graduating senior of a Hancock County High School.
  • The applicant must plan to be a full-time student enrolled for their freshman year at the University of Findlay.
  • Applicant must be a resident of Hancock County and a citizen of the United States of America.
  • The applicant must have maintained a 3.0 GPA or above while in high school.
  • The applicant must be able to document their achievements, participation in organizations and volunteer service in the community.
  • Financial need is a consideration, but not a requirement.
  • Students who receive full tuition scholarship support from other organizations or institutions for use at the University of Findlay will not be considered for this scholarship.
