The Sight Center of Northwest Ohio established the Hancock County Blindness & Low Vision Fund to support services and programming for Hancock County residents experiencing permanent vision loss. From low-vision clinic to assistive technology instruction, daily living adaptations, home safety enhancements, white cane training and caregiver support, The Sight Center changes lives every day. With certified and credentialed staff, national accreditation, and nearly a century of expertise in blindness and low vision, The Sight Center is the only comprehensive low-vision resource center in the region.

Established in 1923, the Sight Center serves an extensive 18-county region in Northwest Ohio, as well as parts of Southeast Michigan and Central Ohio. Each year, the Sight Center serves thousands of people of all ages who live with permanent vision loss. Some are totally blind, while others are considered legally blind or visually impaired. Some have lived their entire life with their condition, while others have had to adjust to their new reality after a lifetime of perfect vision.

The Sight Center provides individualized services ranging from low vision evaluations to rehabilitation therapy, mobility training, assistive technology support, daily living adaptations and home safety enhancements. These intensive services, most of which are provided in a client’s own home, teach lifelong skills that empower independence in people who have permanently lost much or all of their sight. The agency enriches the lives of hundreds more annually who call for resource information, seek caregiver advice or who find low-vision solutions through The Shop at The Sight Center.
