Applications are now being accepted for the Jon A. Schlueter County Teacher Scholarship. This scholarship will assist current teachers employed by the Hancock County Educational Service Center, or one of the 8 local schools in Hancock County who are looking to get their masters or doctorate degree.

  • Applicants for the Jon A. Schlueter County Teacher Scholarship must currently be employed by the Hancock County Educational Service Center or one of the 8 local schools in Hancock County and have been for a minimum of three successive school years.
  • All applicants must also have applied for and been accepted into a graduate degree program at an institution of higher learning for obtaining a masters or doctorate degree in a field of study for which the applying teacher is certified to teach or can be certified to teach upon completion of the degree.

The amount available changes from year to year but typically ranges from $6,000-$9,000 in total, which is then split in half for Hancock County teachers and Findlay City School teachers.

Preference will be given to currently employed teachers who display the following qualities: enthusiasm, energy, creativity, a positive attitude, diligence, thorough preparation for classroom teaching, good communication skills with students, are motivational, are professional with peers, parents and administration, and display and project characteristics of becoming an outstanding teacher.

This scholarship was established through the estate of Jon A. Schlueter at the time of his passing in 2011. Born in Defiance, Ohio in 1941, Jon was a graduate of Metamora High School and Bowling Green State University. Jon was a resident of Findlay, Ohio and the owner/president of Mid State Homes. He enjoyed the arts, music, traveling, his friends and family gatherings.
