Since diversity was identified as a top area from the 2017 Community Conversations process, The Community Foundation has added this two-part workshop in 2018. Nonprofit agencies are strongly encouraged to have several individuals, including staff and board, attend these workshops.
Participants will work with Common Ground Consulting and The Community Foundation during a two-part workshop series which will focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion issues.
As part of the workshops, and to facilitate work between the sessions, a Basecamp site will be established to share resources, questions, and activities. The sessions are open to nonprofit staff and board members, and multiple individuals from each organization are encouraged to attend.
Specific objectives include: a) explore the interconnectedness of a variety of diversity issues, focusing on personal bias and structural organizational issues, b) discuss difficult, challenging, and often controversial issues in a safe environment, c) develop strategies for dealing effectively (both personally and organizationally) with issues of privilege, implicit bias, and structural inequities, d) learn to use new tools for dealing with conflict, particularly around differences in values, and e) recognize the added strength of diversity in community-building and problem-solving efforts. Common Ground Consulting, based in Washington D.C., has over 25 years’ experience in creating spaces for people from diverse background and experiences to come together, build trust, and identify areas of shared and common interest so they can work together to achieve specific goals. They have worked throughout the United States and around the world.Register Here >
