Norbert F. Meyer, son of Fritz and Else Meyer, was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1956 and moved to McComb with his parents in 1962. Prior to his tragic accidental death on Christmas Eve in 1967, it was hoped that Norbert would follow in the pathway established by his father, Fritz, who was one of the founders of the Consolidated Biscuit Corp., especially in regard to an interest and education in engineering and science. In order to honor his memory and to encourage students in McComb to excel within the fields of engineering, physics, chemistry, or mathematics, the Norbert F. Meyer Scholarship was established. Fritz and Else Meyer along with the McComb Development Corporation and other contributors established this fund in 1993 to encourage all students in the McComb system to explore and study in one of the named fields of endeavor. They hoped that the existence of this award would motivate all students to higher achievement and assist in promoting an overall standard of excellence in the McComb School System. It was also hoped that it might, at some stage, make the difference in securing the opportunity for a well-qualified student to attend a first class university. At a minimum, it is expected to lessen the financial burden of a higher education for a very deserving McComb graduate.
