Handbags That Help: Grants

Click here to learn about grants made in 2008 and 2009.

Grant Availability
Each year Handbags That Help (HTH) will grant 100% of their membership contributions to nonprofits organizations in Hancock County. For the 2009-10 grant cycle the amount available for grants will be $40,500. This may be awarded as a single grant or multiple grants at the discretion of the membership.

Grant Focus: Building Strong Families
Proposals are being requested from nonprofit organizations for programs in Hancock County that are focused on Building Strong Families with an emphasis on meeting individual’s needs. In order to determine where we can help best, we would like to look at grants in all areas of basic needs including, but not limited to, housing, clothing, food, health, and education. HTH strongly encourages collaboration among organizations.

Grant Eligibility
HTH welcomes proposals from nonprofit organizations that are tax-exempt under sections 501(c)(3) and 509(a)(1) of the Internal Revenue Code and from governmental agencies serving Hancock County.  If you are applying for a grant under another organization’s 501(c)(3) status, please submit a written statement from that organization’s board president agreeing, on behalf of the board of directors, to act as your organization’s fiscal sponsor, to receive grant monies if awarded and to oversee the proposed project.

Grant Application Deadline
All grant applications for the 2009-10 membership year must be received no later than 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 15, 2009. On December 16, 2009, all applicants will be asked to present
a 5-minute brief to the Grants Committee on your proposal. The meeting will be held at the Family Center beginning at 9:30.
